    Next technical resistance of note in the cable is at 1.6277 with 1.6299 behind there. The high so far has been 1.6230 but the lack of a strong rally suggests that the market was already long in anticipation.

    That's the second day running this has happened and the EUR/USD has fallen below 1.3580 with EUR/GBP also sharply lower already in European trade. Fears are growing that a Euro-zone bank could be facing funding problems. (Edit: No comment from ECB)

    Rumours now flowing that a stronger than expected retail sales number will have the UK rate hike calls reaching a crescendo. The general expectation is for +0.5% after a -0.8% last month. Cable high so far 1.6221.
